Bleaching
your hair can be tricky. And risky, especially if your hair has some dye on it.
Even worse if the dye is black and you’ve been dying your hair that color for
quite some time already. Been there – done that. In that case, you can’t really
put bleach on your hair unless you want it to turn out green/yellow/orange. I
didn’t want THAT, but I didn’t want to waste my money on a hairdresser, either.
So I started looking for a way to get rid of that blackness myself. It’s cheap.
It’s easy. You can do it at home.
Interested?
That’s what
I thought.
WHAT IS
BLEACH BATH ?
Bleach bath
is basically… bleaching.
“What? But
you said..?!”
Hold on for
a second. It is bleaching, sure. But bleach bath it is a much more gentle and
easy to control process. It doesn’t ruin your hair UNLESS your hair is already
very damaged.
WHAT WILL I
NEED?
-
cheap,
drugstore bleach / lightener for highlights (4-5 tones)
-
shampoo
-
tap
water
-
conditioner
/ hair mask
-
mixing
bowl
HOW TO
BLEACH BATH YOUR HAIR?
First step is to determine peroxide percentage
that we want:
-
12%
- lightening 2-3 tones – if your hair is very healthy
-
6%
- lightening 1-2 tones – for quite healthy hair
-
3
% - lightening 0.5 – 1 tone – just to slightly correct your current hair color
If you only have 12 % that was included in your
bleach box, water it down with tap water. To get 6% - ½ water, ½ peroxide; to
get 3 % - 1/3 – 1 for peroxide and 3 for water.
If your hair is shorter – use half of the
bleach box.
Next step is mixing it all together.
Mix bleaching powder with ½ cup of tap water,
add one tb spoon of shampoo, 2 tbs of conditioner/hair mask and peroxide (see
above). Mix it all together.
-
Make
sure your hair is dirty, before you put in on. If it’s not – use some coconut
oil on it – it will protect your hair.
-
Wet
your hair a bit with your fingers. Don’t make it soaking wet though.
-
Start
putting the mixture ob your ends and then go up. Don’t put it on your roots
just yet – leave around 5 cm
to the top of your hair.
-
Foam
the mixture on your hair and leave it for 5-30 min
-
Put
the rest of the mixture on your roots and foam it for the last 5 minutes
-
Rinse
your hair with lukewarm water
-
Put
good hair mask on for 15 minutes
-
Rinse
it and dry your hair
TIPS:
-
Don’t
let the mixture get dry, but don’t make it soaking wet either.
-
Foam
it every now and then
-
Control
the color every few minutes
-
Don’t
use bleach bath more often than once a month – after some time your hair can
get dry – use good hair masks!
With this
method I went from black to dark brown to light reddish hair. I’m not using it
anymore because I want to condition my hair before I get some blonde highlights.
